Here it is at last, summer. With temperatures reaching 40 degrees, we all work up quite a sweat. We feel sluggish and exhausted. Exercise in this heat? Better not. Appetite? Not really!
Let us not sink into a slump. How long have we been looking forward to these long and sunny days? Even with high temperatures, we can still experience a lot in summer. Here are a few tips on how to get fit through the hot days 😊
1. drink a lot
It's nothing new that we should drink a lot in summer. Nevertheless, the water bottle is hardly ever touched at work. Or we drink only coffee until midday to counteract fatigue in the warm temperatures. This is not the best idea, because coffee makes the body sweat even more and has a diuretic effect. Since we lose a lot of fluid through sweating anyway, we should avoid this. It is best to drink plenty of water throughout the day. If you often forget to drink at work, pour yourself a glass and try to finish it by a certain time. Or set a timer for yourself at regular intervals. Drinking enough water also helps against tiredness and headaches. A little tip: Instead of ice-cold water, use lukewarm water, otherwise your body will try to compensate for the difference in temperature and you will sweat even more. If you like it with flavour, you can spice up your drink a bit with a squeeze of lemon, for example.
2. movement
In this heat, you don't have to perform at your best. But lying on the couch all day is not exactly satisfying for many people either. If you have back problems, for example, they will quickly complain about the lack of exercise. And the weather is actually calling for you to go outside and soak up the sun. It's best to go out in the morning or evening and avoid the midday heat. How about a relaxing walk in the evening, for example? Or a short bike ride to the lake. If you want to exercise outside, it is best to do so in the morning. Here, too, it is important to drink enough! As a small meal for on the go, our Wacker bar perfect! For a little cooling down on the go, fill a spray bottle with water and spray yourself down every now and then. It's good for you and cools you down 😊
3. sun protection & loose clothing
If you are out and about, make sure you have sufficient sun protection! Keep your body well supplied with sunscreen and, in the best case, always have a supply with you for emergencies. Loose clothing is a better choice on hot summer days than short, tight clothing. And a head covering provides additional protection from the heat 😊
4. eat enough - but what?
You're not hungry for big, hearty meals in the heat either? Then your body is sending you exactly the right signals. The body is stressed by the heat. So you should not put additional strain on it by eating food that is difficult to digest, but instead provide it with lots of minerals. In addition, many small meals are more sensible than one large one. In the morning, for example, you can have a Wacker Muesli grab. Melons, tomatoes and cucumbers have a high water content and provide the body with extra fluid. Foods with a lot of sugar and other sweat-inducing foods such as chilli and onions should be avoided. Dinner should not be prepared too late, otherwise the body will work a lot overnight and, in the worst case, you will sleep less well.
5. keep the flat cool
Your flat has turned into a sauna with these temperatures. Maybe you can lower the temperature at least a little with a few little tricks. Try to ventilate properly in the morning and late at night. From midday until early evening, all windows must be closed. Otherwise the heat will come into the flat. Roller shutters and curtains (especially on the outside) can also help. If none of this helps, a footbath or even a lukewarm towel can be used to cool yourself down a little. Air conditioners and fans are also great, but there is a risk of catching a cold, so don't set them too cold and don't let them run continuously. Since fans do not lower temperatures, a bowl of ice cubes can be placed in front of the fan. Or hang up wet towels in the flat.

I get very hot in the summer. It's good to read that coffee can help counteract midday tiredness. I will look for sunscreen that I can buy.
Hello Marlon, it is a good idea to look for sun protection. For example, instead of coffee, water with ginger helps against fatigue. You can read more about it here: https://stories.bleibwacker.com/food-guide/eine-portion-ingwer-am-tag/
I am also preparing for the coming heat season. It's good that you point out that all windows must remain closed from midday until early evening. I want to get some additional heat foil for my windows now.
