Did you know that even the ancient Egyptians ate bread with different spreads, such as honey, fruit and olive oil? No wonder that spreads are still so popular in the 21st century and that there are always new flavours to buy.
Delicious snack
Brotzeit and Vesper - sometimes also called Abendbrot, Jause or Fofftein: There are many names and many ways to make your bread really tasty. Who would have thought that the bread snack originated in Bavaria or in rural culture? If you slave away all day in the fields or herd cattle on pastures, you can't just go into the kitchen at lunchtime and cook something. And there are no canteens out in the fields either. That's why the farmers and shepherds took their meals with them to work - that is, to the fields or pastures. Several times a day they ate cold food to regain their strength and continue their work. Because bread was always part of the meal as a filling staple food, the name "Brotzeit" became established over time. This then also gave rise to the German Brotzeit culture, which has long since ceased to be confined to the fields, but can be found in just about any home, regardless of the time of day.
